With prom season right around the corner, you are no doubt already thinking about how you want to wear your hair for the special night. While many of your friends may end up spending a fortune getting their hair done at a salon, you can easily do your hair at home and achieve stunning results. The key is in the details.

When creating updos at home, one of the hardest things to do is craft perfect twists and dramatic effects. But you can have equally stunning results by taking a few shortcuts. Here are a couple of ideas that you can do yourself at home.

Loose, Romantic Updo

Remember Kate Winslet’s hair in the Titanic? This classic, romantic updo is very simple to pull off at home. All you need is a medium sized curling iron, some bobby pins and super-hold finishing spray.

To begin, start with dry hair. Give your hair a once over with the hairspray and start to curl your hair in ringlets. You can do this by taking ½” sections starting in the nape while pinning the rest of the hair up. After completing each section, pull down another ½” parting and curl until the whole head is covered in Shirley Temple ringlets. (Don’t worry; it’s not going to stay like that.)

Next, pull hair in 1” sections from around the hair line. Twisting slightly and loosely, pull the sections up and back toward the top of the crown and pin into place. Continue around the entire perimeter of the head until all of the hair is pinned up. If the curls on the crown look a bit funky, rearrange them to where you would like them and pin into place. You can also leave tendrils of soft hair falling around the face and neck of this updo to create a wispy effect. Spray to hold.

Fun and Modern Updo

This updo is extremely easy to create. Start again dry hair. First, create a dramatic design parting in the front and top of the head. You can do a zigzag parting or an angled parting, really any parting that adds interest. Sleek the rest of the hair down and back to the nape of the neck in a temporary ponytail. Holding the ponytail in your fist, twist up until the end of the hair are pointing up and over the crown leaving only about 1” of hair to play with. Hold with a clip and fan the ends out with some pomade or styling wax. Spray to finish.

You see, it’s not that hard. And when your friends all show up with cookie-cutter hairdos and less money in their pockets, you can smile with the knowledge that you not only have an individual updo but that you also have more money to burn.

No single cause for lower back pain can be defined in isolation. It is because the types of back pains are many. Understand the pain in its proper perspective, and then decide about the type of treatment that you intend to pursue.

In the USA, the survey reports indicate that four out of five adults experience back pain at one time or the other during their lives.

Your back is such a big area, and the pain could be in any part. But the severity of the pain has nothing to do with the damage you have suffered. A small strain, can give you unbearable pain. A big muscle-wound may not do much of the damage.

Your back is a long rectangular park. Many body parts are covered under its flat area. Any disturbed area can generate pain. Plus, there are many parts of the spinal anatomy which can cause a great amount of pain!

In the lower portion of the back, there is a cluster of nerve roots that go to the arms and legs. Any irritation there causes lower back pain. It is usually due to the irritation in the smaller nerves that innervate the spine in the lower portion of the back. Muscles may be strained. There could be injuries of joints, bones, ligaments and inter-vertebral discs that may cause you severe lower back pain.

The causes of lower back pain are at times difficult to understand and yet you experience it. When pain is there, it has to be treated as such. It is only you that can think about the immediate cause that has preceded your back pain. Is it due to wrong posture while you were sleeping? Is it due to an uneven bed? Is it due to heavy work pressure you are facing these days or long time sitting or standing job?

Whatever the reason may be, keep in mind that you cannot start taking over-the-counter medications just because you have pain in the lower backside. These hard medications can create more problems to your existing troubles.

Some types of back pains are capable of creating a surgical emergency. You need to adopt such procedures only based on your doctor’s recommendations. They are:

1. Sudden bowel and bladder inconsistency
2. Step-by-step increasing weakness
3. Sudden and severe pain in the abdomen and lower back
4. Back pain due to muscle strain.

Regular exercise and regulated diet habits are the permanent solutions to back pains. Always understand the reasons for your back pain and go ahead with the consistent treatment. Any odds and treatments that are not methodical will only aggravate your lower back pain.

Microdermabrasion is a ventilation technique for the skin that helps repair facial tissue that has perhaps taken a beating from the sun and other effects of aging. A plastic surgeon will perform this technique and will use a device that is not unlike a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals over the face. They will then mix gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead and outer layer of skin. As with other skin renewal procedures, more than one session may be required in order to reduce and remove fine wrinkles and/or unwanted pigmentation.

Microdermabrasion is a good choice for skin improvement technologies because there are virtually no side effects. The benefits however, include the following: it gives the skin an overall fresh and healthy-looking glow, it is non surgical which means it is a safe, effective and quick procedure. Microdermabrasion is effective on all skin colors and types, and there is no anesthetic required. It is also ]excellent for skin that may be sensitive to other chemical procedures because this is such a gentle technique. Unlike with complicated cosmetic surgeries, there is no “rest” period involved, therefore normal activities can begin at once.

There are several things that you should consider before going ahead with this procedure however. It might be cost consuming since you will most likely need multiple sessions in order to see results and to maintenance them. The best results occur on patients with pale or fair skin tone will show best results, so if you are darker in pigmentation, you should consult with a professional first. As well as these important considerations, after the treatment, your Doctor or Surgeon might want to recommend an individualized skin care program in order to maximize results, which might prove to be costly or not time efficient enough for your lifestyle.

If you do decide that Microdermabrasion is right for you, congratulations. There are many skin problems that this procedure can help, reduce or cure such as signs of prematurely aging skin including fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, acne, acne scarring, and enlarged pores. Microdermabrasion gets rid of dull, lackluster skin which gives you a more youthful appearance.

Some people should not use Microdermabrasion process so make sure you let your doctor know if you have or have had in the past any of the following conditions. Undiagnosed lesions, herpes outbreaks, warts, stage 3 or 4 acne, rosacea, unstable diabetes, or any autoimmune disorders.

There was a time when mankind used to roam this earth barefoot. But now thinking about doing the same may be considered preposterous. When we say we need to pamper ourselves the last thing we think about is our foot. Even though it is as important as any other part of our body, we tend to give it a step motherly treatment. Like your face and hands, your feet should also be taken care of.

By following some good tips you can take care of your feet too. The first mistake many of us do to harm our feet is to buy one of the most uncomfortable shoes. If you are a working person you have to consider that you would be in these shoes for excess part of the day. Buying a good shoe is always very important. Whenever you go to buy shoes check your foot size, because the sizes of your feet may differ. Considering that, you should buy shoe for the biggest foot. It is better to go shopping for shoes in late afternoons as our feet swell the most during this time of the day.

Yoga has been spreading like a wild fire and you can try some yoga asanas which would be useful for your feet. There was time when walking was the only mode of transport in our lives and due to which our feet used to get the proper exercise. Nowadays, there is less walking and more of sitting in the car, waiting to reach our destination. So exercising is a good way to help your feet.

Proper personal hygiene would help your feet from getting infected by any of the skin diseases or other foot problems. Change your socks daily and see to it that is of good material which would help in the breathing process of your feet.

Some simple and easy ways to take care of your feet

-Scrubbing your feet with pumice stone will help remove the dead and dry skin
-Apply foot cream before going to bed to prevent any cracked heels problems
-If your feet smell, use talcum powder or foot sprays this would keep your feet dry and clean
-Soak your feet for 10 minutes in warm water which is mixed with salt and add drops of lavender oil to relax your feet
-Hot and cold treatment also works very well for your feet. To improve blood circulation, dip your feet in hot water then in cold water alternatively
-Soaking your feet in warm water mixed with shampoo, helps your toe nails immensely
-To fight cracked heels. Mix few drops of lemon juice in Vaseline and apply it at the required area
-Almond Oil is very good for your skin. Applying it regularly to your feet after bath will get you a smooth result
- Regular pedicure is also very essential to have clean and good feet

We certainly can’t blame if you don’t. Herbal medicine, after all, is still trying to gain its former popularity and so many people are still in doubt of its efficacy and prefer to use prescription medicine instead. But you see, if you take the time to check historical texts, the use of herbal medicine can date back as far as 5,000 years ago! The efficacy of herbal medicine, therefore, should not be in doubt anymore since it’s supported by five millennia worth of proof.

Before we give you an example of herbal medicine that can provide stress relief, however, we shall give you a little bit of do’s and don’ts on the subject of herbal medicine to ensure safety and proper use.

Do consult your doctor first before taking any herbal medicine to fight stress or for whatever reason. Self-medication is never good and it can bring you a lot of complications that could have easily been avoided if you had only asked your doctor about your chosen type of medication.

When consulting your doctor, do bring a sample of your herbal medicine so he’ll be able to analyze whether it’s real and of good quality. To safeguard yourself from cheap herbal medicine imitations, always buy from any herbal medicine store of good and long-standing reputation. These stores may even offer money back guarantee and of course, that wouldn’t hurt at all.

Your doctor may also make you aware if there would be any possible negative reactions if and when you do take a particular herbal medicine. That doesn’t mean you can’t take herbal medicine anymore to provide relief; it simply means that you’re just not able to take that particular herbal medicine and you have to search for another.

Lastly, if you’re already taking prescription medicine, you truly need to visit your doctor before taking herbal medicine as well because there are instances when a combination of both can result to unwanted complications.

And now for an example of herbal medicine that can provide stress relief:

Catnips – One of the most common symptoms of stress are diarrhea, increased or loss of appetite and anxiety. If these are stress symptoms that trouble you most, this herbal medicine is definitely what you need because it nurtures the stomach and nerves.

Kada Kava – This herbal medicine can provide stress relief by vanquishing symptoms like insomnia (typical of workaholics who love to do overtime) and anxiety (typical of workaholics who have high pressure jobs).

If you, or someone that you know, suffers from snoring, then you are probably looking for a way to cure it. While the actual causes of snoring vary from obesity, sleeping on the back, allergies and more, the majority of sufferers simply want to know how to correct the problem rather than what caused it.

Many anti-snoring devices are designed to help sufferers stop snoring and start resting.

Natural snoring remedies including sleeping on your side, ridding your home of allergens, losing weight if recommended, etc. If none of these remedies seem to work, many sufferers immediately turn to a variety of surgical procedures for their snoring solution.

However, these types of procedures are invasive, uncomfortable and may not be necessary in all cases. Before turning to surgery, consider the use of anti-snoring devices.

With the retail market being what it is, there are many anti-snoring devices that claim to solve this problem or cure that one but, when looking for legitimate anti-snoring devices, always look for something that has either been directly recommended by your doctor or is labeled as being doctor recommended.

This is very important in identifying the quality anti-snoring devices from the rest of the pack so to speak. One anti-snoring device, which is currently available, is known as the Sleep Genie. This product, as it is fittingly titled, typically works it’s magic during the first use.

The product provides a comfortable support for the jaw while allowing the mouth to remain closed through the night. Have you ever tried to snore with your mouth closed? Exactly. No luck, right? That is why the Sleep Genie has been identified as being doctor recommended. It provides a medicine-free, non surgical way to end snoring.

If the sufferer continues to have problems even after using quality anti-snoring devices, a physician may need to look for the possibility of sleep apnea. This is a very serious medical condition which, if left untreated, can lead to other health problems.

With sleep apnea, the snoring sufferer often stops breathing completely throughout the night and is therefore at risk for various health problems. A proper diagnosis for sleep apnea can only be made by a physician.

This article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be used as, or in place of, professional medical advice. Before beginning any treatment for snoring, please consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis and remedy.

Throat obstructions due to swallowing of objects is a problem more common among children, though such instances do occur in adults as well. It may get stuck in your throat due to many unknown reasons. Children have a tendency to put everything in their mouth like small toys, coins, safety pins, buttons, bones, wood, glass, batteries or any other foreign objects. It takes 24 to 48 hours for the object to reach the digestive tract. But if the object gets stuck for a long time it can damage or tear the esophagus and cause infection.

The most common places for objects to get stuck are

- On the same level of the collarbones (clavicles)
- Center of the chest
- Near the bottom of the rib cage

Some symptoms to notice

- Gagging
- High-pitched breathing
- Difficulty and pain while swallowing
- Vomiting
- Avoiding solid foods
- Increased drooling
- Pain in the neck, chest or abdomen
- Inability to speak
- Bluish skin color

Some Causes of Choking

- Eating too fast without chewing can
- Intoxication by alcohol
- In an unconscious state by inhaling certain materials
- Head or face injury (swelling or blood can cause choking)

Tips to remember

- Try not to panic
- Do not make your child vomit
- Try to think positive and do not assume that surgery is the only option
- Do not remove the object if stuck in the chest instead cover the object with padding. Put a tape around the padding so to avoid any movement. Avoid any vigorous jerks.

Home Remedies

Clear your throat by drinking liquids or swallowing bread. This may take approximately 30 to 60 minutes to work. If it does not work try other options or consult your doctor.

You can try the Heimlich maneuver. Stand behind the person and wrap your arms around his/her waist. Make a fist with one hand and place the thumb side of your fist just above the person’s navel, well below the breastbone. Grasp the fist with your other hand and make a quick, upward and inward thrust with your fist. Continue this till the object is removed.

For obese or pregnant people, wrap your arms around the person’s chest. Place your fist on the middle of the breastbone and make firm backwards thrusts.

Warning: The reader of this article should exercise all precautionary measures while following instructions on the home remedies from this article. Avoid using any of these products if you are allergic to it. The responsibility lies with the reader and not with the site or the writer.

Hypnosis, and the way our minds project our self image, is a very powerful way to lose weight.

Hypnosis itself is a very powerful technique. The latest research shows that it eases pain,
speeds healing, increases fertility, even fights cancer.

Most of us are not even aware of how powerfully the mind controls us. From it’s postion
of protecting us, it manipulates and causes behaviors, even the negative ones, with the overall result
of keeping us safe and alive. All of this, of course, happens without our conscious knowledge.

Hypnosis is a way of accessing the mind directly. It is a tool that allows us to change negative
behaviors “behind the scenes” so to speak, and, where it really matters – in our mind.
Most of us also know nothing about hypnosis, except that it’s a bad Vegas act. Most of us think it’s a magic trick.

Most hypnotists are practicing psychologists. They can help the patient put themselves into a deep state of relaxation. And this is the important point, no one does it to anyone. The patietn either allows themselves to be hypnotized or hypnotizes themselves.

Most patients state it is similar to the feeling you get right before you go to sleep. Deep, relaxing breathing techniques and quiet sense of fluidity simply instill relaxation a sense of peace and quiet.

A funny thing is happening to hypnosis, long a feature of vaudevillian routines: it’s becoming respectable, working its way into the nation’s premier research hospitals, medical journals, and doctors’ offices. An increasing number of physicians are using hypnosis to ease patients through childbirth, angioplasty, chemotherapy, breast biopsy—even full-on surgery.

Hypnosis is helping people get over fractures, burns, migraines, asthma, fibroids, peptic ulcers and skin disorders. The same techniques practiced by ancient Egyptians 2,000 years ago and “discovered” by Austrian physician Franz Anton Mesmer in the late 1700s are now scoring impressive results in medical experiments across the United States, Europe, and beyond. Mind, it seems, really can overcome matter.

If somebody told you there was a medication that could treat 100 different conditions, didn’t require a prescription, was free, and had no bad side effects, you wouldn’t believe them,” says Harvard Medical School psychologist Carol Ginandes, Ph.D. “I don’t want to sound like a snake oil salesman, because hypnosis is not a magic wand. But it should be made available as a supplementary treatment for all patients who could benefit. Right now.”

We’ve all seen the commercials, read the advertisements and wondered if it really works. The latest craze in teeth whitening products has the world eager to sink their teeth into something new. Everyone wants to have a nice and white, sparkling smile. The problem that many face is the expense of repeated dental visits, lack of dental insurance or simply an absence of time.

Some of the world’s most well-known teeth whitening experts, who currently manufacture toothpaste, have released gel products, teeth whitening strips and even teeth molds that are believed to help in the fight against discoloration. Teeth stains are a part of life, whether it be the result of age, drinking soda or coffee, smoking cigarettes or simply not brushing properly. Regardless, the most popular teeth whitening system has always been an afternoon in the dentist’s chair. Thankfully for many, especially those who fear the dentist, teeth whitening systems are now available for the independent do-it-yourselfer.

Teeth whitening systems are designed for home use, but that doesn’t mean that they are not without risk. Anyone who has particularly sensitive gums or any type of lesion should consult their dentist prior to using any teeth whitening strip or gel product. In addition, each product is different and features various instructions. The manufacturer’s provide these instructions for the purpose of maintaining the effectiveness of their teeth whitening system, while promoting a safe use of their product. It is important that, prior to using any teeth whitening product, consumers carefully read the outside and inside package and/or directions for instructions and any warning labels.

A dentist can professionally clean and polish your teeth in the office, which takes approximately 30 minutes or more if excessive cleaning is required. During the visit, a patient may also ask the dentist about his/her own recommendation for a teeth whitening product. Many professionals recommend a gel product, which is used with a custom mold of the patient’s teeth. The dentist can typically create a mold of the patient’s mouth in the office and provide the take-home kit the same day.

According to The Navhind Times dated 8th May 2006, USA is unprepared for the Bird Flu pandemic. A fact that the United States Health and Human Services Secretary, Mr. Michael Leavitt admitted.

Avian Influenza or the H5N1 Bird Flu virus has not yet been found in North America but experts feel that it is only a matter of time before it crosses over from Asia to Europe and Africa. It may only be a matter of the next few months!
The US has already awarded $ 1 billion worth of contracts to five drug companies to develop a vaccine. The White House has an action plan ready to counter the pandemic in the midst of fears that a pandemic may kill up to two million Americans causing economic havoc.

The US and the European Union will host talks in Vienna on June 6-7 to evaluate the action plans to fight the Bird Flu crisis and this will include the vaccine development progress.

Vaccine development and manufacture was a top priority laid out by President George Bush’s “National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza”.

206 people worldwide have been infected with the H5N1 virus out of which 113 have died, more than 50 percent, according to World Health Organization. Mr. Leavitt compared the H5N1 virus to the 1918-1919 influenza epidemics which had killed 50 million people worldwide.

The Bush administration released the Bird Flu response plan called the “Pandemic Influenza” which outlines the strategies that the government, businesses and citizens were to take incase a deadly strain reached the shores of USA. The Military would be called on to help.

The Pentagon spokesman, Bryan Whitman said that the Military would aid in transporting essential supplies via military aircraft, medical surveillance, scientific investigations and tests abroad, distribution of medicines and provision of emergency medical facilities, communication support to hospitals, spot dispensaries, police and other civic agencies. The US Military might even be used to give quarantine assistance and/or be used in any appropriate situation. This would entail the need of the overseas troops as well.

US is looking for long term action plans and methods to slow the virus from spreading, get enough critical medical supply and limit if not stop this inevitable chaos. The government is trying to gear itself up against a worst-case scenario of almost 2 million deaths due to this deadly virus.

Until now only the only drug oseltamivir or Tamiflu is known to reduce the severity and duration of the illness within 48 hours of the flu symptoms. This may increase the chances of survival but clinical data is limited regarding this and until more research is done, it is all the help we have right now. Let us therefore join hands across the world and look for solutions to combat a situation that seems mightier than us!
